Re: New Rod Project

New update. Put epoxy on Thursday night with the plan to fish it over the weekend. Here's where you should say don't rush it, take your time, you idiot. Mustn't have gotten the epoxy mix quite right (or not setting up the heater in the room) cause on Friday morning I touched the epoxy to find it sti...

Re: Blades

Thats the one I found years ago on the rocks somewhere. Didn't know what to do with it until a mate showed me the VX blades and I remember this one stashed away in the dusty boxes at the bottom of the garage. Dug it out rigged it upside down by accident and it didn't do much at all. Was really disap...

Re: New Rod Project

Hey Damo

Erskines Epoxy.
How did the rod carrot you? That sounds like an interesting story.

I think I could easily get addicted to building the rods, however I think my other half may slow me down by stealling the credit card.

Re: New Rod Project

Have now done the butt wrap and a little decorative wrap in front of the foregrip. DSCF1198.JPG DSCF1200.JPG Sort of stuck now. Have a 13mm check for the foregrip but the blank is only 11.5mm so there is a fair gap between the check and the blank. I have built up with tape to allow me to try the 13 ...

Re: New Rod Project

Hi Ben K, It is very addictive, I'm already thinking I might have to build another of the Hastings ones to balance out my bream rods. and HR says the Medium weight Hastings is a cracker for flatties. There are some bigguns in my local river (don't tell Dusky) that I could do with a decent rod to cha...

Re: New Rod Project

Thanks HR Yours is prettier. Have to work on that. I am extremely impressed with this rod to date. Had heard a bit about the blank with lots of people raving about them but was a little worried I would end up disappointed. The blank itself felt really light and responsive but it was hard to compare ...

Re: New Rod Project

Ok, got handle bits and spent last night playing with them. Have borrowed (stolen) Hotrod's handle design thumbsupsmilie because I like the extra sensitivity theory of having the fixed part of the hood where my index finger sits, and I reckon it looks very cool. Spent some time with file and utility...

Re: New Rod Project

Have the economy IPS split grip with silver checks. Epoxied the guides on the fly rod I rebuilt this week today and discovered that the colour preserver stuff does a good job. Thought this morning "I have time to do the epoxy today, but I haven't done the colour preserver. Can't change that much". G...
