Hand Crafted Timber Landing Nets

Post by Got Buckley's » Thu Oct 08, 2009 5:15 pm

Gday all

I was just wondering if there was much of a market for hand made timber landing nets ???

Over a few beers the other night my mates brother explained that he had made a few over the years and was trying to explain the process, he ended up sending his daughter home to grab a few to give me a look. And what I had pictured in my head to what I had in my hand were two completely different things. They are made for the fly fisho ( short handle to hang off the belt or back of the vest ) but he is thinking of making a few differnt sizes, and the finish is something else.

I reckon he should sell them, but they take ALOT of work to make so he is of the opinion that no one would fork out for a hand crafted net when they could buy a metal one for $20. He would need to get atleast $100 to break even. So do you fellas reckon there would be any interest in them? I said I would put the word out and see if i could get any feedback. I mentioned maybe putting peoples names on them etc to make them that bit more personal.

Ill get a few pictures to post up in the coming days to give you a better idea of the craftsmanship that goes into them, but I was eager to find out if there was any interest there and if anyone knows of anyone else in aust was making timber landing nets ??? as i said I have no idea

Thanks fellas

cheers
Buck

I think the trout fishers would go for it but having recently started working in Tassie and considering braving the elements and having a fish a landing net was on my mind (don't want to expose fingers to the ice cold waters) and given that i am partial to a nice bit of woodwork was actually having a half hearted search for something timber.

Saw some timber ones for about double that in a specialist flyfishing shop online so I would imagine a quality Australian made one would appeal to the more patriotic and i would probably have to express my interest if it was made here.
