Ugly Stick Quiver Tip???

Post by Fizza » Sat Aug 23, 2008 7:29 pm

Have any of you rod building fellas ever shaved the tip portion of an ugly stick to fine tune for grub/bait fishing Cod?

Myself & a mate did a couple many yrs ago.

Brilliant for the intended application.

Mully, these weren't added.

We sanded/shaved the top 18"-2' {roughly} of the rods on a rod building lathe.

This was how we could keep them one piece yet still have them delicate enough for when cod suck in & spit out baits prior to actually hitting them & trying to bury you.

We purpose built them just for bait fishing cod.

I still have mine after 18yrs. I don't think you could do the same thing with very many other rods.

Here's a pic of this rod.

It was made for dropping baits up against snags not long distance casting & especially for heavy fish hence the flat rear grip to eliminate rod twist using the forearm to maximise backbone presurre.

The foregrip is a mere 2-1/2 " long which is all that's needed to keep such a combo balanced.

Should have mentioned the rod is 8ft long although it appears longer.
