Milkfish Magic!

Post by Marrakai » Fri Feb 11, 2011 8:26 pm

OK, finally got fed up with the local milkfish studiously ignoring my weed-flies, so with the assistance of 'Captain Mighty-White' I decided to berley-up during my lunch-hour today and stoop to the bread-fly.
Happy to report that it worked a treat! Here is the result of over 20 minutes of sheer grunt, though I have to admit that a fair bit of that time was spent trying to land the thing by myself without: a) pulling the tiny Size 2 tarpon hook, b) slipping over on the wet oyster-rocks, or c) breaking my fly-rod!

Well that's another fly-fishing milestone out of the way, although I would still like to turn the trick without berley. Somehow that feels like cheating, with the Doctors Gully Fish-feeding facility in sight the whole time!
Best of all, I think my drag washers may even have survived the ordeal! Image

@Marrakai . . .

That is a cracker clapclap clapclap

I don't consider burleying cheating . . . its called targeting the fish lol lol

Hard to catch at the best of times and must have really given the gear a stretching and well done to survive

Don't try eating them Marrakai, the Asians do, they actually farm them in Thailand. They taste like muddy weed.

nice work mate

my first trip to darwin Dad & I were politely asked to leave/kicked out of Doctors Gully for thumbing milkfish as they fed & lifting them out of the water...

Everyone says they're bloody hard to catch so I tip my safari cap to you!

Well done with the Milky.Apparently one of the few fish inthe world where you can get a little bit of freshwater out of the flesh.I was told by a Phillipino net fisherman.
