THE MONTH OF MAY

May this year was a very busy month. There was a large collection of RMG's up for sale. Then there were couple of sellers on the bay, one of these had around 20 early samples, made in the 80's.

I was lucky to get a few and have been going through the 159 topics in the RMG section to try to gain some knowledge. There are a few questions that I need to ask Rob and hopefully he can provide some answers when he is not busy.

These 2 polties are troubling me. They are moulded and one has no writing or moulding lettering at all.

These 2 moulded scorpions have painted bibs. Are the bibs plastic or metal ???
IMG_2802.JPG
Then there are these 4 lures . They all have RMG lures at their tails. Are this placement at the tails found in the early lures usually???

The Battle-axe and Rellik-doc are easy but the top and the bottom lures has no names on them at all.

I figured the top one is a Death Adder. Are the dolls eyes used much in RMG's and how old would this one be ???

The bottom one was listed as a RMG Snyper and the seller said it was made in the 80's. There was nothing in the 159 topics about this lure. Is this rare ???

I know there are a lot of questions Rob and I shall wait patiently for answers.
Many many thanks.

Albert

Hi Albert.

I can't help to much with the Q's you asked apart from maybe the last one about the RMG 'Snyper'.I think it is an old Guppy.Haven't seen may of the Guppy's around, maybe made in limited numbers?

What I do know for sure is that they are all nice lures droolsmilie clapclap thumbsupsmilie

Don`t be ridiculous Baz, that`s not a Guppy. crazysmilie lol lol
The only similarity is that they are both RMG lures lol lol
But then again, it may pay for me to wait till Rob gives the answer before I make a fool of myself -duh -duh

Albert, they are 4 very nice old lures, I love that early Battle-Axe clapclap clapclap

G'day Albert , I try to answer your questions in order , and will double check with my dairies on dates tonight , if I am wrong here.

Little Poltergeist's.... The Gold-coloured one is a "Proto-type"... Plastic , but you will notice a hand made bib.... NO support bubble on the underside to reinforce the area that the top-head or Omega connector link would have most of its pressure. That would be the one that I made for Halco to get ABS injection molds made from. The other Polty is a totally halco made lure.

Scorpions... Both urathane molded , the smaller 68mm model with pointy bib , around 200 made but were very un-stable and the 1mm aluminium bent very easily. It was quickly converted to a Oval-shaped 1.5mm polycarb bib.... and remolded. The 100mm model also followed with an Oval-shaped bib , and remolded , but did at least 500 with that bib before the change to polycarb.

Writing on the tail of the lures....... that was probably done in 99% of the case , and the model name written on the belly area , mostly because there was not enough room to write both on the tail. Although there were plenty with ...RMG lures on say the top-side of the tail , then the model name written directly below that. A bit confusing... but plenty of examples out there of both versions.

Death-adder with dolls-eyes.... not alot of them done. Rupe has 2 I think , and 1 is still in its original pack. Sent to him by an old lady who's husband had died , and she found the letter that they got when they originally bought them from me. She gave them back to Rupe for the $8 each that her husband had paid back in the 80"s. Rupe of course set her the money and a bunch of flowers and 4 KG of king-prawns , knowing that she had a weak spot for prawns. If you have a copy of the Lures-in-depth book , you will see a death-adder identical to your. I seem to think in around lure No: 230 - 240. It was one of mine that they tested.

It is a guppy.... was also called a "Ridge-back" for a while , until harro told me of another lure-maker that was also using the name "Ridge-back". I first did that shape in around 1986 and made it for a few year , yours would be a reasonably early one with that "Dipped-head " paint job, and Marroon/red body colour. Most would have been in yellow/mustard & black colours , made for a particular shop in Inverell.... It was called " Hong-huens"... sorry if the spelling is wrong.

When that lure came up on Ebay , I wrote to the selling and told him what it was called , thinking a good description would be a help to him. He wrote back more or less telling me he didn't care and was not going to change his listing. We did still bid on it , but not enough , and Rupe already has 3 or 4 of them anyway.

There is a similar lure called a Snyper.... but it was made much later , probably 4-5 years later. I showed the bloke how to make them and was happy to see him continue making them as he was just starting out.

I will check tonight with the quantities of the "Pointy bib urathane scorpions"... if I am wrong about the numbers produced , I will correct it tomorrow.

Hope I haven't missed any of your question Doc..... RDR
