THE ART OF ROBERT MICHAEL GADEN the Scorpion

Post by ocd1688 » Mon Jan 26, 2015 4:36 pm

Australia Day seems to be a good day to celebrate the Scorpion, surely the most controversial, and one of the most successful lure design in Australia's fishing lure industry.

Over the years various versions of facts, fictions, myths and legends relating to this lure design were offered and without doubt there remains opposing views, some out in the open but most remain behind the scenes.

Even when the real facts were presented, there are those who refused to accept the truth.
To this day these people persist to profess and propagate the lies and deceits to further their own agenda.

The facts are:

The Scorpion was designed by Peter Newell.

The design was offered and accepted by Rob Gaden as part of a settlement of a debt.

A statuary declaration that all rights to make this lure, was signed sealed and delivered to Rob Gaden is confirmation to the above indisputable fact.

The design was refined and modified by Ron Gaden and he brought it to the world to become one of the most successful Australian lure ever.

Peter Newell and Rob Gaden remained close friends for a significant period of time after the above event.

For whatever reasons, and I am sure there were many, all due to human nature and emotions, the controversy started after these events.

It is nearly 3 months since I started this series of threads on the considerable talent of Robert Michael Gaden.
It is hoped that new, and not so new collectors of Australian lures learn about these facts and form their own opinions based on facts rather than gossips and innuendo.

I have tried to be honest and unbiased , as I have stated in the beginning, that I never had the pleasure of meeting Rob, but I appreciate his art forms and I hope you do too.

I only have a couple old RMG Scorpions and they are beautiful lures. They both are old "diphead"

These ones are pretty rare.

Big lures for 1988.
In the old classic scorpion shape, but does not spot a pointy bib.
He is a bit chewed up by whatever in the deep blue sea, bent hooks and all.

I`m sure your right about the reasons for the original lie, but I cannot for the life of me see how anyone with any common sense or integrity can continue to support the lies of the past. Whether for their own benefit or the benefit of the original liars. Anyone`s opinion of either party concerned has little to do with the facts.

I often wonder how famous(brilliant or not) the Scorpion design would have been without Rob`s intervention ???

Enough of that, this is another oldie & a dip head thumbsupsmilie

Gus, the reason there is only 4 in the second set is that there was originally 6, but they are such a great fish catching colour that there is no paint left on the other two lol lol lol lol
