BuzzTail Frog

Post by Marrakai » Fri Nov 06, 2009 11:29 pm

So who made the Buzztail Frog?

This is a neat hard-plastic surface lure with a rotating rear 'leg' section, I assume American-made as obvious bullfrog but could be Japanese I guess.

Searching this lure is difficult because Google is swamped by a contempory soft-plastic 'worm'-style frog now using the Buzztail name, made by Producto Lures.

Anyone else have one of these hard-bodies, or know anything more about it?

Marvellous thing, I really like it!

OK, thanks Nev. Hopefully that will narrow the search!
Cheers for that.

Did a google on "pradco" and found this lure is the Pradco Buzz'n Frog

Did another google on "pradco purchase heddon" and found a great article.
In 1980 Elton B Stephens Co (EBSCO) purchased PRADCO and used that name
In 1983 PRADCO purchased Heddon and the article continues in detail

Cheers,Jim

Jim, you missed out on a few ownership changes prior to Pradco/EBSCO lol

James Heddon & Sons became James Heddon Sons, Division of Daisy Manufacturing Company (yes the same one that made the BB pellet rifles) in 1962.

In 1968 it became Daisy/Heddon, Division of Victor Comptometer Corporation after Victor bought Daisy.
Then came the EBSCO/Pradco era in 1983 as you mentioned.

Cheers Brad

So.....

...does this lure have a pre-Pradco heritage or was it solely a Pradco initiative?

Thanks for info so far, guys.

Found some more info,
Rebel Buzz n Frog.jpg
PRADCO Outdoor Brands was founded in 1960 as Plastics Research and Development Corporation, a custom injection molder that soon became one of the largest injection molders in the Southwestern United States. Founded by an avid angler who felt lures molded of plastic would perform better, last longer and be more affordable than traditional wooden lures, PRADCO entered the fishing lure business under the brand name “Rebel®.

1980 PRADCO (Rebel Lures) was acquired by EBSCO.
No mention found so far as to when the buzz n Frog was introduced, but will continue looking...

Gee, that was complicated!! Was there some link between Bill Norman and Rebel lures?? One bought the other out or became the other ???

Their minnow lures, certainly in the early 80's, were almost identical.

Nice Buzz-tail frog, Marrakai. clapclap clapclap
