Speed King Lures

Post by ielliott » Mon Aug 31, 2009 6:42 pm

I have 2 Speed King XSP lures, both 5inch minnow lures similar to ABU Killer/ Rebel etc. moulded in pink/orange plastic. One floater and one sinker in original packs. Made in Australia about 1975 by Rebflex Sports Pty Ltd, 9-19 Frederick St, Rockdale, Sydney 2216. Packaging claims a full range of colours. Similar to many other minnow lures of the period. Just thought I would post this for the history.
Cheers , Ian.

Ian,
From what info I have manged to glean, Rebflex was the manufacturing and inporting arm of CHAPMAN SPORTS STORE in Sydney.
Gary Chapman (dec) was fairly innovative and either made or imported many tackle items and sold them under the Rebflex label.
I have a Speed King Jig (lead knife style on card), a Sea Devil Spoon Jig (resin encased mother of pearl on card) and a Speed King Bucktail Jig from the Rebflex stable. I also have a similar lure to which you alude, which is just ever so slightly different to the Daiwa and D.ickson versions of the same 'Killer' style minnow that may well be Rebflex as well.

Check under the bib near where it joins the head and see if there is 'Japan' moulded on there.

Cheers Brad

Hi Brad,
No markings at all on the speed king minnows. Will attempt to find and upload photos.
Cheers, Ian.
