SEEKERS CATALOGUE-COMMERCIAL STAGE, Reference only.

Post by ocd1688 » Mon Aug 20, 2012 11:34 pm

THE COMMERCIAL STAGE

In this stage the Seekers were given their name. The production of them increased and eventually they reached commercial quantities.

A few of the round eyes survived into this phase and they have the signature and sizing on them. One can, I suppose, put them into a category of later transitional /early commercial Seekers.

These are illustrated below with a 110 and 90 Redfin.

During this commercial stage, lots of new colours became available as well as the old favourites.

The following discussion is divided into:

SIZES AND SHAPES.

The range of sizes expanded and they become known as 110, 90,70 and 55’s.
Different shapes, including the so called Flat head lures and Torpedos were introduced as well.
Because of above factors, the Seekers in this phase are also more interesting, more colourful and can be found in much bigger quantities and at times in mint condition, with or without their backing card.
On the other hand, there are also some that are rather scarce because they were of the later colours and with the creator’s untimely passing, not many of them were made.

THE BIBS.

At first the 110, 90 and 70 were only available with metal bibs and the 55’s with lexon bibs.
Later on the lexon bibs were also used for the 90’s and 70’s.
There are no 110’s with lexon bibs and no 55’s with metal bibs.

THE COLOURS AND NAMING OF THE SERIES

The modern Seekers have named series of the old favourites such as the Carps and Redfins, then the Frogs, the Rainbow trout, the seldom seen Black carp and others that I am not aware of.

Other than that the Seekers are simply named after their colour patterns . e.g BW means black /white, RB means red/black and YB means yellow/black, Blue is blue, Fluoro mean fluoro colours, which include green, pink ,orange and so on.

Sometimes it will have something like FGB which means fluoro green/black. At times there will be additional descriptions such as SP, which means scale pattern, or even something like FO with redhead which means fluoro orange with red head. Or Manaro red SP denotes Manaro red with scale pattern.
It is an interesting exercise of its own to study and decipher these colour codings.

The 55’s will stand out with their diversity in colours and most of them do not having an equi valent in their bigger brothers.

It would seem logical to catalogue The Seekers along the above criteria, but coupled that with the inclusion of metal and lexon bibs, the task is enormous and that is why this thread is named as an attempt to do so.

It is hoped that eventually the task can be completed.

The following pics are based on the format: carded sample where available to name the series, followed by an earlier round eye 110 where available, then the 110 with the modern eyes, 90’s with metal/lexon bibs and the 70’s with metal/lexon bibs. The 55’s will be included where available in the same series.

I feel it is best to ignore the slight variations in shape, stripe patterns, eye colours etc in these initial pics. But please feel free to post up your lures in the appropriate series. There will be many gaps which I hope will be filled with your help.

I do not know if the great Holden Monaro is the inspiration here ???

I do believe the above colours series are samples of a later period. There were no corresponding Round Eyes seen so far.
However as I always say, just because one hasn't been seen does not mean that it doesn't exist.
