Sticky Goo Stuff Removal

Post by fishaholiclures » Mon Feb 09, 2009 6:41 pm

Hi Guys,
I have seen a number of lures posted up that are still in the plastic pack or on a card and still show the price sticker from the retail outlet. Whilst some may like to leave the price there to remind them of times when fishing was affordable, I like to remove the stickers. After some trial and error I have found a product that does the job on most sticker's, gooey stuff and unwanted stains.

It is called De-Solv-it, it is a citrus based fluid that removes glues and stain without harming delicate lure and packaging surfaces like some petroleum based solvents can. I have even had good results getting stickers off plain coloured backing cards with a little more care.

Hope this tip helps you remove some unwanted stickers and stains.

Mully, I thought about posting it there, but probably more help to collectors in here????

Up to you move it if you feel it warrants it.

You can't begin to imagine how scared I was to open this post........

Handy tip to keep in mind, would still be sure to remove every bit of the citrus based stuff once adhesive is gone and be discrete with its application.

Hi Simon,
Its really quite harmless to proper paints and plastics. If the label is stubborn, I will actually drown the label in a pool of it. 30 secs later the label will peel/wipe off. The only hassle I have had is using the same method on a coloured backing card and rubbing too hard with a cotton tip, The ink did start to lift, but a quick blot and let it dry and all was OK.

And the lovely citrus/orange smell when you use it is quite nice as well, unless ya a Koala and like Eucalyptus lol
pokeystix sorry Paul howdy

Leave him alone Brad - you know that they can't drink the water - so sucking on eucalyptus leaves is perfectly acceptable in SA!! thumbsupsmilie thumbsupsmilie

I use plain old orange oil for these jobs, but tend to use my thumb for most labels these days.
