Knots with glue?

Post by Craig » Sun Sep 07, 2008 10:07 am

I only use it on my 2 kg outfit at all times and sometimes on my 4kg.
I use five minute glue on both lines before I tie my knots and then again once it's finished.

If i'm tying on a leader at home i'll put a some on. I use the shockproof superglue, doesnt set hard like normal super glue so its not as brittle.

Loctite 401.Good tough glue.It doesn't appear to weaken leader material as I thought it might.

I used to use superglue it works well but i don't use it anymore, i find no need as the double uni is a fantastic knot it hasn't let me down to this day, since i started using them... thumbsupsmilie I do how ever still use a drop on my jig heads to hold the sp's on better, when i could be bothered..... I will further test the double uni this summer on some big silver drummer...Chop do you find normal superglue makes the knot brittle, i never found it to be too bad, but it does make sense i only ever put on one small drop to bond the knot together, and always toward the top of the knot away from the fluro carbon, more around the braid......Cheers Damo

Admittedly i mainly fish for smaller species; ie bream, trout , redfin...

But i never use glue and have never had a knot fail, in fact i sometimes struggle to bust off the occasional snag, so have never seen a need to use it. Same as Damo, double-uni for me.

I went for NO as I don't use leaders. I don't use braid either. nope

Mono direct to the hook/snap/lure & never been busted off. thumbsupsmilie

I run with the old theory "if it ain't broke, don't change it" crazysmilie

I like to keep things simple & it's personal preferrence. -duh

I voted "No" as well. It is worth taking the time to practice and tie the knots in your system very well, rather than rely on glue to save something that may be half-a$$ed. However, sometimes it is worth putting a tiny drop of the flexible Loctite, or Zap-A-Gap on the Rizzuto (whip) finish of the Bimini Twist to prevent the tag from unravelling that little bit. It always seems to do that. No glue goes near any other connection that I tie.

I find that if I use a silicon based glue the knot slides through the runners smoother (if you shape the knot), also sometimes use nail polish to make knot smoother, it works a treat. Nev
