Re: new to the site

The pictures of the rods with the marbled handles and the article that went with them in the GoFish magazine early this year convinced me to build a Hasting bream rod up (see my thread of a couple of months ago). Although I left the grips plain cork as I was concerned the epoxy could get slippery. H...

Re: Heartland

There was an ad for them in one of the fishing magazines, I don't think they had more bearings than the Sol, same as the Advantage I think but the rotor bail arm on the heartland looked similar to the Sol whereas the Advantage is slightly different, or it might just be the plastic covers on the sol ...

Re: New Rod Project

Yes it is the glare he is thinking about. As we are both flyfishers also there has been a fair bit made of rod flash at various times especially on shallows of clear lakes. Flyfishing involves lots more waving the rod around than lure flicking and the rods are generally longer, so more an issue in f...

Re: New Rod Project

I'm pretty sure the one your offering will be minus the furry guides which would be a bit of plus.

A mate was talking about doing a matt finish rod, the furry guides might be useful for him. lol

Re: New Rod Project

Sorry for the late reply Matt, snuck in a 2 week holiday where I didn't really have to touch a computer. Blank was $140, butt kit was around $80, guides were about $60 in think. I already had the thread and epoxy from repairing other rods, so around $280. If you had to buy epoxy and stuff would be a...

Re: CULPRIT SWIM FIN GRUBS

I've used these quite a while ago and still have some. Didn't do very well with them, but was only at the very begining of my plastics fishing and wasn't doing particularly well with anything. They do look good in the water plenty of movement. I'll have to dig them out from the drawer of old plastic...

Re: NITRO VAPOR 7" -- opinions?

Matt and Hotrods, Snuck the one I'm building inside and stuck it on the digital Kitchen scales (not sure how accurate they are) and it was just under 90grams. With the alconite guides. The binding on some of my top guides is too long so I'm going to redo them. One is loose anyway. I think the smalle...

Re: NITRO VAPOR 7" -- opinions?

Hotrods,
One of the big marketing points on these rods is their very light weight. As you know I'm building (probably copying is a better term) a hastings rod like your and it feels extremely light.

do you know what you made up rods weigh?

Re: New Rod Project

Felt great, throws light lures really well but easily handled the fish I hooked. Had a surprising amount of power. I love the reverse grip design, very comfortable and the transmitted bites were great. By rebind do you mean rebind the whole rod or just the one that moved. Probably better to do the l...
